Bas-relief sculpture of an Italian stone mason.
While I was attending the Naguib School of Sculpture in Glenn Ellyn, IL in 1978, my grandmother invited me to accompany her on a trip to Italy and Sicily for 6 weeks. It was an amazing opportunity for a budding young sculptor.
I did a lot of sketching while I was there and modeled this relief after a drawing I made one day when visiting Fortessa da Basso in Florence. I watched a mason cutting herringbone patterns into paving stones to for the courtyard.
