From the Ashes

We are drawn ourselves into a feeling of rising from the fiery ashes by this cottonwood and birch sculpture of a rising phoenix.

In the 80’s I carved several phoenix sculptures. This rising phoenix was carved from a piece of a hollow cottonwood log. The flame is from a torn birch root I found in our firewood pile. It’s mounted on a birch base. It was carved and burned with a torch for contrast.
